Re: Tweaking the Silver Line

Which are all vastly superior to having no green line.

That's the relevant comparison for this situation.

Re: Tweaking the Silver Line

Agreed, but if the ramp opens to busses even with 100 restrictions I'd still consider that a huge win. Restrictions can be gradually lifted over time after everyone sees that the sky isn't falling...

Re: Redevelopment of Symphony Huntington Properties

Storefront retail in prosperous urban areas is far from in decline. If it were in decline, rents would be falling; actually, rents are surging.

Big boxes in the suburbs? Yeah, they're in decline....

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

Just for the record, and for those who didn't already know, parking in the garages at Assembly is no longer totally free. You have to scan a credit card on entry and exit, the first few hours (maybe...

Re: 1000 Boylston Street | MassDOT Parcel 15 | Back Bay

These developers may also be taking a wait-and-see approach with Parcel 12 slated to go up over the Pike right down the street. If that decking goes smoothly, it'll likely remove some of the...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

With the Fitchburg already stopping at Porter and ending at North Station, I see very little marginal benefit to adding another Fitchburg stop at Alewife.

I'd be surprised if aggregate time saved...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Yes

Sure, but everything at that location moves at a snail's pace. They bought the old gas station next door two-and-a-half years ago and still haven't gotten around to taking down the canopy...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Star Market is transferring their Fenway store's liquor license to their new location at the Hub on Causeway.

Makes sense. The Hub on Causeway Star Market will likely get a ton of sales, and with...

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

This has been known for a while. I'm disappointed about the trees and landscaping, but not the statue. The statue's "rightful place" was always in the Fens. I wish Millennium could have left the...

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

All the trees have been removed from Winthrop Square. The Burns statue is fenced off with a sign saying it will be removed this weekend (Aug 10-11) and put back up in the Fens "in the Fall of 2019."...

Re: Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

The fundamentals of air travel have really changed remarkably little in the last 50 years. For example, Boeing 737s and 747s were flying in 1969. They're still flying today, just updated versions of...

Re: Somerville Developments

Davis Square is a great example of gentrification without development. Developers don't gentrify a neighborhood, residents do.

The neighborhood has completely changed, but there has been...

Re: Children's Hospital IMP Amendment 2

That chart ends nearly a decade ago. Also, health care administration is a field ripe for outsourcing (especially in the long run).

But anyway, BCH leases a lot of space for back office /...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

As Ari Ofsevit has pointed out 100 times, the ramp from Newbury to the Pike is shorter than this ramp, and as are multiple ramps to the Tobin that MBTA busses use hundreds of times daily.

I...

Re: Old Boston Edison Plant | Summer St | South Boston

The site plan is rotated by 90 degrees, and so is your frame of reference.

The water is north of the site, but shows on the left side of the plan.

Block H = NE Corner
Block A = SE Corner...

Re: Old Boston Edison Plant | Summer St | South Boston

A, B, and C are on the south side of the property, along 1st St.

Current plans orient residential along 1st and away from the Channel and Freight Connector.

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

As we've seen with Assembly and South Bay, big box retail centers can get way denser without the retail going anywhere. By my measurements, the Gateway Center has about 29 acres of surface parking...
