Re: Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

Taking away at what significantly makes the streetwall interesting, overall I'm happy to see the rehab of the buildings in this project, but the loss of the ornamentation is such a shame.

Re: Open Thread

It's a lot of driving, but may be a good fit for those with limited mobility:

Take a very scenic drive around Marblehead neck, Marblehead, then up the coast through Beverly Farms, Manchester by...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Over the years, I've observed that a group of people act differently depending on the atmosphere they are put into. By way of example, I'd go to happy hour with the work crew to an upscale place...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Boston has taken baby steps to change the situation, but so much needs to be done to help local entrepreneurs without a large amount of capital backing. Increasing the availability of geographically...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

The problem is that they are too aggressively structuring the dynamic pricing model. I understand the rationale for raising rates at garages that are at 100% capacity.

However the problem is on...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

My 2 cents - in theory I like the idea of dynamic pricing but intuition tells me the mbta adjusted the thresholds so they could hide the reality that this is a fairly large cost increase for...

Re: North End Piazza on The Greenway | 198 Hanover Street | North End

I agree and also think it's a missed opportunity mostly because a larger building could have somewhat visually hemmed in the greenway in this neck of the woods. In this part of Boston the greenway...

Re: The Lucas | 136 Shawmut Ave | South End

Van or KZ or anyone,

Sorry to go off topic for the thread, but I have a question after viewing the streetview link? Is there a reason many new mid-block high rises in Manhattan have setbacks...

Re: Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

I love this building too - It looks like a "real building" as opposed to the glass boxes so en vogue these days

Re: One Bromfield | 1 Bromfield Street | Downtown

29 storefronts is the operative word here. 29 storefronts in a one block stretch (or two block stretch depending on how you view bromfield). They ain't making new streets downtown, like Bromfield,...

Re: Boston - Most Embarrassing Blight That Tourists See

Causeway St and the area leading into City sq Charlestown has changed in feel perhaps more than any other corner of Boston in the last 25 years. It certainly feels brighter and maybe more prosperous,...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Red Barn in Faneuil Hall was my go to spot too, unfortunately I found out last Friday from a city worker behind the construction fence that Red Barn isn't reopening in that location. The first floor...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Fk4, see posts #2910 and 2915 on the previous page of this thread and you will find the demographic information for Boston metro area rather than just city limits.

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

I think we are on the same page, just to clarify, the "71% white" figure for Metro Boston is white alone, not of hispanic orgin. 11% are of Hispanic orgin who may consider themselves white or black...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Metro boston is 71% white, there are larger #'s of Asians and Hispanics than Blacks in the Metro, but as pointed out, the focus seemed to be on Blacks only for the article.

Demographic source: ...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Overall, my point being is that after reading the seaport article I can help but wonder how much of the unwelcoming environment blacks feel in the seaport is just due to the fact that Metro Boston...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

First off, I think widening income inequality is one of the most pressing issues in this day and age, however those who expect the BRA to do anything significant to mitigate this in the seaport are...

Re: Orient Heights BHA Redevelopment | Faywood Ave/Vallar Rd/Waldemar Ave | East Bost

If the goal of the these public housing retrofits is to blend in better with the surrounding neighborhood in an attempt to decrease the stigma of living in what looks to be "public housing" i'd say...
