Re: Julie Hall | Brookline Ave | Emanuel College | Fenway

Because design is part of our collective self image, especial the design of our built environment. We want better design because it makes a better city which makes it a better place to live. There...

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

This has been a tough summer for landscape planting btw. Lets be a little less outraged and let this stuff grow in. After it is established and still looks terrible, then we can get out our torches...

Re: NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

Renderings are often really nice. Lets hold on and see what they actually build.

Re: Education First (Phase III) | 10 North Point Blvd | Cambridge

Give this one time. Wilson's office is chock full of good designers. I would hold off the hard worry for a bit on this one. That precast is really at the back side and probably appropriately banal....

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

You and I ... as usual ... agree. Maybe we can come up with a "what now" discussion. The only argument I have been able to drum up in my career is to talk about how when you buy cheap you buy risk....

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

But what would we talk about? Nothing. There is nothing else to do on the interwebs but be instantly offended about everything. (And use lots of hyperbolic language) (and emojis) :D:cool::eek:

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Terracotta panels are a stand in for brick. Its a way of making a material connection to the brick past of Boston. Not saying it works, but when there is a discussion about contextual materials...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Anytime. That is what we are here for.

I am not speaking of the architect. In general the architects make recommendation based on the design criteria, including the proforma, and beyond that...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

You guys are so cute when you are upset. Why do you think these choices are made? How do you think these choices are made? In another post yesterday (the MIT nano thread I think) I explained that...

Re: Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower (GCG Phase I) | 50 Sudbury St | Gov't Center

All buildings in boston are elevated on the "boston base" elevation system which unifies all building heights on a common system. It is not ever true that all buildings first floors are at elevation...

Re: The Boulevard (née The Times/Littlest Bar) | 110 Broad St | Downtown

The brick has an unfortunate "garden center" feel to it.

Re: MIT.nano

I love the gray rectangle. It is a composition device that works. Not every surface that does not have a window has to be a billboard for something. Sometimes a nice surface should just be a nice...

Re: MIT.nano

Here is an intro on why one of the reason these science buildings get high quality facades. Think of it this way:

The building with all of its systems and interior fit out is already a building...

Re: Six West Broadway Hotel |South Boston

Um .. what to say.

This I really think that the quiet organized restraint on this is quite nice. I feel like I know where the "this is ugly" comes from but I would urge to look at this as a...

Re: UMass Boston Residence Hall 1 | Columbia Point | Dorchester

I really do not like the aesthetics here, BUT this is strong design work and well done. I give it a big thumbs up. Good job design/construction/client team.

Re: 150 Kneeland Street | Chinatown

The mural is pure fiction. It is a placeholder for "something cool here".

Nice to see a design detail in PNF though.

I dig the folks over there at RODI. They are fighting the fight.

Re: Julie Hall | Brookline Ave | Emanuel College | Fenway
