Re: The New Retail Thread

Intelligentsia Coffee opened their first Boston proper location today, in the lobby of 225 Franklin St. I visited this morning and it looks great (and the coffee was excellent as expected!)

Re: South Boston Infill and Small Projects

150 W Broadway looks really good!

On a lot of those photos, the garage doors make me very sad. The ground floors are mainly parking in those buildings :-(

Re: Comm Ave Bridge Replacement.

Oh I totally agree. The stop sign for the trains was the lazy solution. The City of Boston would have (gasp) had to make changes to the road to make it safer for the trains, but clearly had no...

Re: Comm Ave Bridge Replacement.

"there's that stupid stop sign before Harvard ave that the train always gets stuck at so that 2-3 cars can cut off the train making that turn"

There used to be no stop signs for trains here but...

Re: Longfellow Bridge update

It is a retrofit. The original plans for the Longfellow simply had a striped bike lane with no physical separation. Only in the last year or so did MassDOT rethink those plans (after many years of...

Re: Beacon Hill: Charles Street Needs a Makeover

Adding to the above, the traffic signals on Charles St are also quite annoying. They have protected walk phases on the legs where there is no conflicting turn movements, but are exclusive walk phase...

Re: Comm Ave Bridge Replacement.

"From my experience, I just want to say, the Peter Pan buses that are shuttling between the B line stops of Babcock Street and Blandford Street are traveling 3 times faster than the B line."

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

The solution to traffic is to reorient out communities and build so that people don't have to drive as much. Focus new development on downtowns and town centers. Rework zoning so that mixed used is...

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I see so many people complaining about Seaport traffic but whenever I've walked over there, it's never that bad. Between 5 pm and 6 pm it's a mess, but whenever I've gone there after 6, it's fine. I...

Re: South Boston Infill and Small Projects

The bar is so low, when I looked at the vanilla box, I actually said "oh wow that's not horrible."

Re: Worcester Improvements

Wow, the rehabbed older buildings look great. And ugh, the newest buildings look like VEd crap.

Re: Commonwealth Avenue Improvement Project

In most places, the bike lanes will be wide enough for a faster bicyclist to pass a slower one, except for when the bike lanes dip behind bus stops. The design intentionally forces bikes to go...

Re: Longfellow Bridge update

Correct. The outbound bike lane and sidewalk are both wider than on the inbound side because of MassDOT's willingness to provide one rather than two outbound travel lanes. Advocates preferred and...

Re: Longfellow Bridge update

Does it bother anyone else that they painted the inside railing and lighting black but the outside railing and lighting the brown/green color? Shouldn't they all be the same?

Re: Brookline Developments

I wonder if it has to do with Brookline's high off-street parking requirements.

Re: The New Retail Thread

Yes Blue Bottle is now open there, and Red Barn has moved out! Not sure if/where they moved somewhere nearby or just closed that location altogether. It's a shame really because Red Barn is locally...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I think it almost always makes sense to have commuter rail to subway transfer at the end of the subway line. That would also make the Alewife garage useful for people taking commuter rail, and that...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Boston has a bunch of new licenses that are restricted to certain areas and may not be resold. If no longer used, they must be returned to the City. I'll have to look up the exact numbers.

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

If commuter rail ends up being converted into Regional Rail as proposed by Transit Matters, I think you could just add a stations on the Fitchburg Line at Union Square in Somerville (to allow...
