Re: Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

That makes more sense than having 3 "headquarters." 3 different companies can have 3 headquarters.

Re: North-South Rail Link

I'm not skilled in the art, so I'm trying to learn here. I think I understand the limitations of accessing the terminal through an interlocking and I would have figured that changing from a terminal...

Re: North-South Rail Link

"Rail Unification" or "Rail Union" or something along those lines.

To me, the word union evokes the image of something fragmented that could be greater than the sum of its parts, which is exactly...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

It looks like tunnels I’ve seen all over the New York or London systems. They will put up some ads and a zillion people a day will traverse the whole thing in 30 seconds or so without really looking...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

How would access work to the south from a Conway Park station? Stairs (and elevator?) up to Park St overpass height?

Re: Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

As a tech worker, I also was hoping Amazon would drive up our salaries. I do think there is some upside to this split scenario though. The Bay Area is clearly so saturated that it is turning...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

I think you focused on the wrong part. It isn't really the disposable income on any one patron, its the total dollar volume across all patrons.

Take the perspective of the grocery store. If you...

Re: One Post Office Square Makeover and Expansion

It looks to my eye like they reduced the top double-height floor to single height and did away with the little pointy fingers sticking up in the air. It is the same number of floors.

I also liked...

Re: One Post Office Square Makeover and Expansion

What are you seeing that I'm not seeing? Because it looks the same height to me, minus the "lantern" thingy.

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

"HQ2" was always a pretty weird concept. How do you have 2 headquarters? Cutting it half again solidifies that Seattle will remain HQ and there will be 2 new (major) satellite campuses.

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

We'll have to agree to disagree about Amazon's reasoning.

We can agree, however, that concerns about housing and transportation cut both ways and I do worry that we can/will stretch ourselves too...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

What sense does that make? Then why wasn't Amazon HQ1 in DC from day 1 or at least relocated there when Amazon became one of the biggest and most powerful companies in the world? Why isn't everything...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

Well, Amazon isn't going to be building any skyscapers in Crystal City either, so pretty much every word you've typed about towers is completely wrong.

The biggest strike against Boston is the...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

I think Crystal City is a good pick for Amazon. Way out by Dulles never made sense to me.

The defense industry better get ready for a shake-up in salaries. Its going to steadily get more...

Re: MXD | 145 Broadway/250 Binney | Kendall Square

I don't follow you. I think this building couldn't be more different from quintessential Kendall Square. It's tall. It's glass. It has about 8 balconies. It has a strong retail program. It has...

Re: Allston-Brighton Developments

The document says that the parking allocation is:

- WF retains 151 parking spaces (same as now)

- Residential units get the 172 net new spaces (0.64 per unit)

The spaces per unit seems...

Re: Allston-Brighton Developments

I don't think it is enough to say "this site is 500 feet from a GL stop." I probably don't know this area as well as you, but I've been there a number of times. A lot of people in Brighton and...

Re: South Station Tower

I liked the offset spire from several iterations back. It was a little inelegant, but it did echo the clock/eagle on South Station far below. Even with the shorter height now (I think that older...

Re: NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

Indeed. Everyone gets an opinion.

When you think about it though, claiming a building "has been VE'd to death" or "beaten with the VE stick" or any such thing isn't really an opinion, is it? It...

Re: NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

That's not what I said at all. When people throw around the term VE, they are pretending they know how and why decisions were made when they don't.

If you think a Transformers movie is crap, it...

Re: NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

Fair, I shouldn't call people morons. I suppose in chastising me, you shouldn't either.

And I'm not sure how you extrapolated all the rest of that about econ classes and free markets. I'm an...
