Re: Downtown Crossing

I think Midwood is waiting until the city figures out the zoning there...too many litigating opponents to try and go for variances.

Re: The Boulevard (née The Times/Littlest Bar) | 110 Broad St | Downtown

I have no idea what you're all talking about...either way, I agree with those who think this is a real missed opportunity. And that is being kind. In my experience, Finegold Alexander are good...

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

yeesh...typical Boston. Goes from some cool/edgy design to bland and clunky.

Re: Pier 4 Condo Building (Former Anthony's site) | Seaport

Is this real wood? I hope not...stained wood exposed to exterior elements almost never ages well.

Re: South Boston Infill and Small Projects

Not to get defensive...but the ground beneath the water is not mucky like these beaches across new england. It's not mucky in 90% of the cape, certainly not the vineyard or nantucket or down by...

Re: South Boston Infill and Small Projects

Couldn't agree more...these beaches are no great resource. The sand is coarse, and the sand in the water is little more than muck. Revere Beach and Nantasket are the closest thing to nice beaches...

Re: Innovation Square (iSQ) | 6 Tide St. | Seaport

Office parks (as conventionally known and designed) suck. Full stop. Better urban design is to respect the street wall (or at least try and create one) and have pocket parks.

The city with its...

Re: Innovation Square (iSQ) | 6 Tide St. | Seaport

Perhaps this has been said before....but WTF with that suburban front yard in the rendering on the fence. What is this Waltham in 1988?

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I suppose this won't require as much upkeep as some of the others...but until the city actually devotes adequate resources to the common it will continue to look like the poor step child to the doted...

Re: The New Office Thread

Amazon could eventually edge out Wayfair, but Wayfair has vastly superior search and filter functionality.

Re: Dot Block | Dot Ave, Greenmount St, Hancock St | Dorchester

Wow...that's a beautiful project...I'm amazed the developer can afford such quality. I've looked at a lot of projects in Dorchester and can't make the numbers work. You're paying the same for...

Re: Dot Block | Dot Ave, Greenmount St, Hancock St | Dorchester

The examples above aren't bad at all. I'm gut renovating a triple decker in East Boston right now. I actually think the East Boston stock is preferable to most of the Dorchester stock because of the...

Re: Dot Block | Dot Ave, Greenmount St, Hancock St | Dorchester

People have a reflexive nostalgia and defensiveness toward the housing style...so I don't see any widespread change happening in the next several decades. Wood doesn't age well...and these were...

Re: Dot Block | Dot Ave, Greenmount St, Hancock St | Dorchester

Looks really good...really throws into relief just how decrepit the rest of the neighborhood looks. Allowing for greater density in some select areas of Dorchester would be great. The housing stock...

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

I'm amazed that a university like MIT so consistently produces such dreck. They have a good school of architecture...they are smart people...this isn't that complicated...why can't they opt for...

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

I'm generally a fan of the Seaport now, with some reservations. That said, places like Melbourne and Rotterdam and Seattle have simply done a better job of building out new areas with modern...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Yes. It's a shame. The name of the place that Cultivar replaced escapes me at the moment, but that was terrific at the outset too. It had a great aesthetic and good food. The Boston food scene is...

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

While I agree the Seaport is not what it could have been, and the architecture is generally not world class, it is becoming a truly vibrant part of the city with real street life and interesting...

Re: The New Retail Thread

I agree, the City botched this as much as Ashkenazy. But I believe that lease happened towards the very end of the Menino regime. Menino was not what anyone would call a visionary. Nice man with...

Re: The New Retail Thread

The real story here is just how completely Ashkenazy has screwed up its management and vision for Quincy Market. The spot has limitless potential and a phenomenal setting. But from the start they...

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

This reminds me of listening to wait wait don't tell me...filled with the laughter of self satisfied sixty year olds who are still compensating for being picked last at the kickball game every recess...

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I'm not quite sure I follow...perhaps I missed a discussion higher up. What do people in the permian basin have to do with this project and why will we be china when we run out of oil? Is this...

Re: Downtown Crossing

One Bromfield is not happening until the zoning in that area changes...the condo association in the Jewelers building basically put a gun to the owner's head and demanded a barrel full of dough or...
