Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I think the cedar posts are in the Back Bay, due to everything being land fill. I don't know the soil composition at Winthrop Square, but that area is original shawmut peninsula.

Re: What's Happening With Project X?

I don't know, that building has some history. The hotel, which has previously been a Radison and a Howard Johnsons took a lead in transitioning that neighborhood from crack pipes and hookers to an...

Re: archBOSTON Update: A New Dawn

Exactly this. Content ownership matters to some if not all of us. I would hate to lose some of the great pictures and thought provoking words due to a poorly designed ToS. None of this is to imply...

Re: archBOSTON Update: A New Dawn

Thanks for reiterating this. I don't think many of us are bothered by the ads at the moment. I consider them to be completely unobtrusive to the extent that I barely notice them. If they can cover...

Re: Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Agreed, that would have been a good spot to cut from Columbus/Tremont corridor over to Huntington. However, Northeastern might legitimately have an interest in preventing a bike highway through...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

That might be useful for ArchBoston and other transit nerds, but I suspect such a listing would lead to public demand for other service cuts. To be honest, I think subsidy level should be one of the...

Re: Boston Skyline Photos

There are really good views from the top of that SB Center garage, but I hate seeing the seeing of surface lots in the foreground. I've never been able to frame the picture in a way that doesn't...

Re: Archboston revamp

There is a Facebook group tangentially associated with this site. I'm not sure who set it up, but for some reason I am (along with a few others) an admin. People should join there, we will get you...

Re: Archboston revamp

Why hasn't MagicMan been banned yet? Even if he isn't Rifleman, the character is clearly intent on sewing chaos. Get rid of the troublemakers.

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

Using the past 5 years average, we'll be at 760K by 2026, and about 810K in 2030.

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

So I wonder if the city still thinks that housing 700,000 by 2030 is the right target. Boston has grown significantly faster than the city's planning estimates anticipated. I think we all know that...

Argh, I find that virtually impossible. God speed to anybody who fights through this non mobile-optimized software!

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Thank you F-Line, that was a hugely informative post. The dispatch complexity are pretty mind boggling.

The point is that unless you have a copy of the Santa study to publish here, we all lack...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

@tallguy, can you possibly try to fix that with some quote tags? It's pretty hard to read/follow the conversation when you don't bother with the tags.

Re: The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

Yes, you are probably right. However, such construction would require community input as part of the process for requesting a variance. A community significantly made up of people who would lose...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I had thought those freight trains only ran at night, although F-Line's pictures indicate otherwise. I don't see it for regional/urban rail, but I agree that an LRT line could probably be built...

Re: The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

I like this project quite a bit, but it's kind of sad how small it causes the one story commercial buildings on HP Ave. to look. I'd like to see floors added to those buildings, but I bet that...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

No, the Type 9s will mix in with everything else. The extension creates the requirement for additional cars, which will happen to be Type 9, but dispatch will continue to function across all branches...

Re: Biking in Boston

Exactly. The Greenway serves a non transportation purpose. The roads on either side of it are over built, especially when you consider they are located directly above an Interstate Highway. Road diet...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Okay, using Google maps distance measurements at several points along the SWC, I'm getting anywhere from 8.5 to 11.5 feet. Acknowledging the retaining wall issue, I'm thinking an 8.5 foot path with...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I'm sorry, but I just can't take seriously any argument that posits induced cycling demand is a bad thing. It's absurd on the face of things. If we were to validate such thinking, then we would have...
