Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

This is sexy, very sexy. Just look at this gorgeous ROW we have here. I think it won't be long at all before folks are clamoring for an extension once this thing gets running. It will reach Sullivan...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Adding some poles doesn't put a dent in electrifying the commuter rail system. Most of your commuter rail electrification costs come from undercutting the track bed and raising bridges in order to...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Only one bridge will be pinched to a single lane, and that is Broadway. Washington Ave is being replaced/widened for the busway.

The only other two bridges are Rt 1 (which is really, really wide)...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Are you sure about this? I'm under the impression that they standing for "Crossing Circuit" -- as in the point where a crossing will activate or reactivate until clear. I may be getting it mixed up...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

I assume you mean the Callahan rehabilitation project? Or was the guy in his 20's when the tunnel was built and is now in his 70/80's?

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Not sure where you got that idea from. No one is even talking about conversion on an official level right now, let alone funding it.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

This doesn't make sense. It seems to imply an absolute circuit is the only method possible. Predictor Motion Sensing (PMS) crossings are widely popular these days and can activate a crossing based on...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Is there any rule -- NORAC or CFR -- which actually bans the use of railroad signals being shared with vehicular traffic signal cycles? It's rather hard to dig up. I figure if the host railroad is...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

The Ted usually isn't bad. Most of the traffic gets caught behind the Boardman St light further north.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

MassDOT said they were going to try to get alerts out earlier than usual. It's not like it's going up and down all day long, anyway.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

The best part is how they actually stop twice at WTC coming inbound.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

Well, I appreciated Cybah's post, so, putting that all behind us now...

I'm looking forward to future phases. Run this up to Carter & W 3rd. Eliminate the W 3rd grade crossing, essentially...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

It doesn't need a new tunnel. Just a resurfacing, maybe, but it *definitely* needs guideways. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guided_bus

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

The focus should be on a [relatively] cheap heavy rail line -- like, exact Red Line dimensions -- from Brickbottom to Sullivan/Assembly to along the rail line to Chelsea, along the former B&A to...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

That's the Tuttle Track. MBCR was rehabbing that Summer 2012, but then work stopped (perhaps crews were diverted to the Fitchburg and Haverhill line double-tracking projects?). This would allow...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

No matter what alternative happens here, the MBTA needs to also run a branch up Eastern Ave in Chelsea and cover the 116/117. Shoot up Broadway to Revere Center, and from there you can terminate,...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

If that was a Green Line display, I wouldn't have noticed -- would look just like the real thing from anywhere more than 10 feet away.

This is incredible. So much attention to detail it looks. I'm in love with the map pages.

Is there a link to this updated plan? TBH, no idea what you're referencing to, but highly interested in seeing it.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

I have to wonder if validators would work at particularly high volume stops in Chelsea. Just show your POP ticket and get in the damn bus. Also, curb bump outs so the bus stays in the roadway,...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea (Study Meeting)

This has been going on for a while, and went to one of the Urban Ring meetings where this was one of the main topics.

This is happening. I'm not sure where the funding is coming from.
