Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Have any studies been done on extending the orange line a half mile to Wyoming? You could eliminate Wyoming and Ceder Hill on the commuter rail, speeding up times there, and Melrose would get much...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

The Commuter Rail always says "now approaching, Reading" or "now approaching, Beverly" when pulling into North Station.

Re: Logan Flight Additions

I wonder if this has anything to do with uncertainties with the 737 max returning to service.

Anyway, I'd love for them to refocus on MHT and PVD instead of growing at BOS.

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

I don't see a zipper working on I-90. I-90 does seem to get more reverse traffic and less peak direction traffic than I-93.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Addition. The Orange Line needs the capacity at rush hour.

Not Logan, but Norwegian is exiting Providence next month.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Wbz and fox25 are reporting that the new orange trains are going into service this week.

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Why in the world would you extend the red south? It already goes way further than the other rapid transit lines.

I'd extend the red out to Waltham using the Fitchburg or Lexington before I'd...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

If the new orange line cars don't enter service in the next few weeks, I think we can safely say that the MBTA is late.

Re: Logan Flight Additions

Not many aircraft can make that route non stop. The NYC SIN route has to operate as business class only cause it can't take a full economy load.

And to Australia, I don't think there is any...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Only problem is that for the Worcester line you run into capacity constraints at South Station, so you'd probally need either a South Station Expansion or a NSRL in order to increase to rapid transit...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

The line to woods hole has been taken by a bike path. Doubt that locals would be ok with coverting it back to rail. Anyway, at that distance, you're getting too long for daily commuters.

Re: Fantasy T maps

Plus, very few people are going to park to take the bus when they can just drive down to the Alewife garage.

I don't see the point of additional transit on the Route 2 corridor. There are...

Re: Fantasy T maps

I'm going to disagree with this one. Route 2 in that stretch is pretty traffic free. The only issue is once you get to the alewife area. No point in putting rapid transit out where highway...

For the BLX, the Commuter Rail could be the "express" service.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Another thing is, back in the 70s federal funding was easier to get than it is now.

Re: Logan Flight Additions

Boston to South Florida is a very large market during the winter. It can handle multiple carriers.

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Also interesting is that option 3, 5 and 6 include the Grand Junction line for commuter rail service.

I think that would be a great idea for the Worcester line, to actually have some...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

One issue with the NSRL is that the current bi-level cars really aren't great for subway like service. It takes a couple of mins to board and unboard all passengers from North Station with double...

Re: Unbuilt roads around metro Boston

That Woburn interchange has to be one of the worst in the state, considering its importance/traffic volume.

Re: Possible Boston soccer stadium | Discussion

How about the GE/Riverworks site in Lynn?

Would be cheaper land compared to somewhere like Allston. You could add more buses from Wonderland during games, and the commuter rail stops there. ...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

The Tobin isn't even in the same direction as the red line.

Anyway, the Tobin construction actually helps I-93 southbound slightly. There aren't as many cars getting through on the Tobin, so I-93...

Re: Logan Flight Additions

https://www.fool.com/investing/2019/07/03/jetblue-is-canceling-more-routes.aspx

JetBlue is also growing at Logan, with some more flights to Reagan and Charlotte.
