Re: Flower Exchange Redevelopment | South End

A tumor surrounded by gorgeous landscaping. Green space! It's gotta be a NIMBY's dream come true, no?

Re: Official City Hall Plaza Proposals

Agree with the view Toby, Van and others have voiced that City Hall Plaza isn't worth investing in until it's being built upon.

With regard to the sub-question that Statler and Bronson raised of...

Re: Worcester Improvements

Obviously I only wish Worcester and its residents the best.

But. They sure as heck make it hard to want to see the city succeed when they allow some of their most beautiful, historic, iconic...

Re: The Boulevard (née The Times/Littlest Bar) | 110 Broad St | Downtown

Ditto. This would be a nice addition in so many other places - but as it is, it erased a piece of history that nicely filled the urban tapestry.

I think the best thing the city can do for the...

Re: Briv

Agree. It makes me think of the old Wired New York architecture forum (thoughtful, interesting) vs. the current Skyscraperpage New York forum (fairly obtuse, priapic about skyscrapers, no matter...

Re: Downtown Crossing

So they essentially trashed 150-152 State Street, eh?

That's just ... barbaric.

What developer and 'architect' were behind this hit-and-run?

Re: The Taj hotel

Even if the Ritz was never HQ'd/founded/etc., in Boston, I'll give Rifleman that the Ritz was a name generations of Bostonians knew as one of the city's fanciest hotels. I assume when the re-branding...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Seems appropriate that once-great, now-pathetic Internet brands should occupy a site once home to a great and beloved building, and soon to be hijacked by a pathetic encroachment on the skyline.

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Holy Christ is the new design terrible.

It looks like a fatter, less-elegant version of Mukesh Ambani's home in Mumbai -- which itself is as elegant as CVS jewelry.

The previous design had...

Re: One Greenway (Parcel 24) | 0 Kneeland Street | Chinatown

Without having seen this in person ...

Man oh man does that look like Trashy McGarbage.

WTF? Was this designed on Take Your Architect Out For A Lobotomy Day?

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

And that, my friends, is the very definition of the bait and switch.

Let’s see if Walsh has. Any. Cajones. At. All.

Re: Providence developments

I'd modify that to:
"If Providence wants to be considered anything other than a totally failed wasteland, it has to have a modicum of pride."

Not demolishing your most iconic building doesn't...

Re: The Huntington | 252, 258, and 264 Huntington Avenue

<pipe-dream rant> Can't they demolish Symphony Towers and build this thing on one (or, hell, both) of their lots?

Then we'd actually have this providing a net positive - versus a net negative - to...

Re: 171 Tremont Street | Downtown

^ That is a nice red-meat story, but it's fictive. We have no idea who would have actually bought these apartments, but that version of events seems more improbable than not.

And if wealthy...

Re: Worcester Improvements

That is pretty shameful. It shows Worcester has no pride, no sense of place, no historical memory, and no standards. In short, it shows Worcester is unlikely to dig itself out of its current hole any...

Re: 121 Seaport Boulevard | Parcel L2 | Seaport Square

Weeelllll, that's the PR spiel. I'd argue they're only doing that in the most cursory way (and no in any way comparable to what they did for the Vasa, cited above, which was to actually preserve it...

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

Meh... I'm not convinced. Wouldn't that same logic tell us that a significant proportion of Boston (not to mention half the continent of Europe) needs to be deconstructed and replaced with...

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

Jesus, that seems wasteful (and just ludicrous). Wouldn't it be cheaper (and much less an affront to the city's history and aesthetic) to make targeted fixes to any damaged stonework while glassing...

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

You've got to be kidding... And replaced with what, alucobond and glass?

Are they re-using the existing facade elements (after a cleaning)? Is the building in any way protected?

The Globe has decided to stop sharing its wisdom with the world (sigh).

Fingers crossed that that's the case. This is a beautiful structure, and let's hope it lives to see another 100 years.

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

MIT has oodles of money and plenty of daring architecture on their campus.

Disappointing they'd have Elkus Manfredi developing this site. They could have gone for something far more interesting.

Re: The Distillery | 516 E. Second St | South Boston

The balconies side looks like a 1960s motor-inn with an extra floor or two stacked on top.
