Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Anyone know what happened to the original routing of SL3 down L street? Seems like a no-brainer now with the bus routes down there.

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

SL1 should stay intact. The surface-level express would be an additional "premium" express service run by MassPort. During peak times, SL1 gets so packed at SS that no one at courthouse or WTC can...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

They really just need to block off a loading zone on Summer St (near where the 7, 11, 4 buses stop at South Station) and run a Logan Express that leaves on a clock-facing schedule every 15 minutes. ...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

But would this have to happen concurrently with expanding some of the lots at the park-n-rides? I've heard that Alewife/Oak Grove/Quincy/Wonderland/128 often fill up half way through morning rush....

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Weekend headways have been downright embarassing..sometimes 15 to 20 minutes. Don't understand why they can't just maintain the usual 8tph. I believe ridership is also down 5-10% as a result.. and...

Re: Unbuilt roads around metro Boston

If we're gonna rebuild why not just make it it a full 3-way flying junction? Just like the storrow fenway ramps. Only requires one more duck-under than what you drew. Will make the area an ugly mess...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Although they may have 10tph on the line during rush hour, the effective capacity is less because the manual signaling thru Columbia Junction makes headways fairly volatile. It might average 6m a...

Re: Unbuilt roads around metro Boston

Probably 10x cheaper just to electrify Worcester out to Riverside and run 4tph 4-car EMU's shuttles to South Station. You also gain the connection to Silver.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Same thing at Central too.. the Pearl St egresses (both inbound/outbound) fill up with people outside the fare gates as a line forms underneath the stairs. Sometimes there are still people backed up...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Reposting from the Amtrak thread. Hopefully with the RailVision chatter going on they will propose an island or double side platforms.. Is there a cost-benefit to each option?

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Fare evasion fines are $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second, and so on. So 10 evaders, assuming we can catch 8 of 10, is $800.

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Good points, but I just don't see how infrequent, slow, diesel rail will ever get the commuting masses to get out of their cars and use the park-and-ride. That means even if they get 500 boardings...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

There was no side platform either.. the platforms at dtx are staggered. Also believe operator doors are still manually controlled (even though there might be a option for auto-operation with CBTC...

Didn't the car derail right on top of a switch north of JFK?

Doesn't look like a switch derailment like the Kenmore incident however.. could it be a failed propulsion motor in one of the cars at track speed? As in could the age of the cars have contributed to...

Redline derailment going southbound at JFK. Bustituting both branches through the area. Looks like a 1600-series..

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Will likely never happen, but would be nice if the extended D would skip over low-ridership Science Park (which will only get served by the E, kind of like how Savin Hill is Ashmont-only). It'd save...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Riding these rustbuckets twice a day, it feels like the 1800 series already has vastly improved acceleration over the 1500/1600's. Thanks.

MBTA Tweeted yesterday about 4-miles of double tracking on the Franklin out by 495. Hopefully can allow for some extra express runs.

Any indication the Red Line cars are still on the original schedule or will everything get pushed back?
