Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Porter-SS is 25 minutes on the RL according to the trip planner. That's on top of how long the CR ride is.

Not saying people don't do it, but it would be nerve racking in the PM trying to...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

I could see LMA workers getting off there and taking the shuttle. Transferring to Orange wouldn't make sense since Back Bay is the next stop.

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Porter is more of a transfer stop (ie: CR riders get on the Red Line there but their destination isn't Porter)

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Might be able to attract some CR riders whose destination is Assembly to get off at Chelsea and transfer there instead of going all the way to NS and taking the Orange back up.

Re: South Station Tower | South Station | Downtown

As mentioned, looks like Pike EB has the direct line to the bus terminal. 93N only has direct access to Central Parking.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

I'm assuming they are talking about laying pavement next to the CR tracks... which it does look like there's room for it down to Assembly albeit you would need to build a new bridge over the Mystic....

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Probably not even that, maybe just once at like 10 or something.

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

The bus of course, but the bus pass is only $55 a month. Someone working full time, even at MA's min wage shouldn't have a problem paying that. Now the subway+bus (which is now going to be $90) is a...

Re: South Station Tower | South Station | Downtown

640k in office space would be, what, another couple thousand jobs?

Re: Framingham, MA

You'd still need a car, but there's certainly plenty of shopping options nearby. A better spot than the under construction Senior Housing that's on the other side of the Mall.

Re: Worcester Improvements

I still don't get the practicality of deliberately moving near the Station to work in Boston. I'm sure rents are a lot cheaper in Worcester but then again a commuter rail pass is (for now) $363, not...

Re: General Infrastructure

Looks like everyone in general got a lot more snow than anticipated, and it was all overnight. The forecast in Boston was only a couple inches I think.

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

I've never been there, but it seems like it is a bit outside of the core. I could see them wanting garages for the time being, and you can always tear them down later.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I would assume it's deliberately this way so that people who seek out the 1A pass are actually using the commuter rail. It might influence how much Keolis gets, etc.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

???

You get subway for 'free' by getting a commuter rail pass.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

True but the Silver Line was supposed to have dedicated ROW all the way to the airport as part of the original Big Dig proposal.

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Isn't capacity an issue at North Station? That would make it a non-starter.

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

There are definitely a lot of people who work in Kendall along the Worcester line. You wouldn't need to go any further than the Square though. OTOH ridership outside of peak commuter time would be...

Re: Fenway Theater | 12 Lansdowne St | Fenway

I imagine they don't want anything that they don't have full control over that has views into Fenway Park.

Re: Fenway Theater | 12 Lansdowne St | Fenway

My understanding is that there is to be some sort of meeting/conference room type space near/above the new pavillion with views of inside Fenway Park but would not be in use during games.

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

Well, if you aren't going to build, something is going to have to give. And in those situations people with more money tend to win out, even if they are poor themselves.

Short term I think they...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

It is just two stops on the Orange Line to Blue. The Red Line of course doesn't have a direct connection with Blue. In fairness, Back Bay has a shuttle I believe and that's four stops on Orange.

Re: General Electric HQ (Phase 1 - Necco Buildings Reno) | 244-284 A Street | Fort Po

It's basically next door yes.

Kind of curious, if Amazon wanted to, how much pushback do you think they would get if they (or someone building it for them) wanted to knock down the Necco...

Re: Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

I think now that's why they wanted NY - Amazon could have gone anywhere but they wanted NYC because the 25K impact would have been much less and also because of the reach of the mass transit (which I...
