From reading a Wiki history of the Ritz / Ritz Carlton branding, it was a convoluted history in Boston with a second Ritz being opened etc. From the history, the Taj being able to retain the Ritz...

Didn't prove anything. The tax break, $600,000 a year for 13 years, was for retail / office, not for the residential.
