Re: Columbus Center

If you've ever stood on the Back Bay platform waiting for a commuter train you know the problem first hand. The air pollution at that station is criminal. There doesn't seem to have been any thought...

Re: The Merano

Why does this rendering differ completely from the image published on July 19th? This one is much better, but could be much better still.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

It may sound dirty but you've hit the nail on the head. Why do people who can afford the home of their dreams have to share it with people who know how to work the system? Menino needs a reality...

Re: DNA Lofts in Boston
Ownership in the city (or anyplace, really) goes beyond the property line. Be a neighbor, know your block, engage.
My thoughts exactly. Jimbo, after re-reading the thread I can see...

Re: DNA Lofts in Boston

I have nothing to do with real estate. I own property in Dorchester after having lived in the South End for 4 years. In that short time I watched Bohemian Boston get totally destroyed. Everybody who...

Re: DNA Lofts in Boston

Not talking about this project I'm talking about the neighborhood. When did it become "pathetic" to make money on an investment?

Re: DNA Lofts in Boston

I took a tour of phase 1 of this project way back in 2007. They are the units south of the renovated/new building, next to Ryan Playground. The developers converted an old factory, or whatever it...

Re: Bayside Expo Center Redevelopment

You have to realize that Columbia Point is SATURATED with affordable housing already. This location offers spectacular views, access to the harbor trail and bike trails, easy access to route 93, easy...

Re: Lofts Avana

There was cocaine too? I knew about the mushrooms, the purple lion (LSD), the crystal (speed) and the dollar joints. The street scene was unlike any other in Boston, slightly dangerous but also...

Re: Rose Kennedy Greenway

It may not have been cool where it was but it should have been allowed to develop elsewhere. For being the seventh largest metro in the nation the adult entertainment options are pathetic. Thank God...

Re: New Building Proposed for Newbury Street

The State Rep is Marty Walz. She has extreme building height anxiety as well as shadow dystrophy. She needs to be retired. Will someone who lives in her district please run for her seat?

Re: Columbus Center

From Wikipedia:
The English noun commonwealth dates from the fifteenth century. The original phrase "common wealth" or "the common weal" comes from the old meaning of "wealth" which is "well-being"....

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop

I also received a copy of the 156 page document in PDF format. It is 9 MB large but I'll try to attach it.
Sorry but I find attaching anything to this forum a challenge. The document contained many...

Re: Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2

In a letter he plans to submit to the Landmarks Commission, Mr. Rohan points out that in 1986 Mr. Rudolph was hired by a former owner of 133 Federal Street to produce a plan for developing that site....

Re: Harvard - Allston Campus

I would argue that the three-decker (the historic term) is quintessentially Boston. It was invented here and does not exist outside of New England. I don't think many people in this country have any...

Re: 30 North Margin Street - North End

I've lived in several large states and the states themselves have very distinct regions within them that correlate well to our situation except that they are contained within one state. They seem to...

Re: 30 North Margin Street - North End

New England is truly the Balkans of the United States. The six state region is slightly smaller in area than the state of Washington yet we can't get it together. Every other state in the region with...

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop

You are exactly right. In many ways the city does not work well. Street cleaning stops before all the leaves have fallen. Streets are not correctly plowed in winter. Sidewalks are NEVER cleared in...

Re: Northeastern eyes dorms

The "skin" of this building is truly cheap and ugly. Apparently there wasn't much attention paid to quality control when the slabs were being manufactured as the colors don't come close to matching....

Re: Russia Wharf

I always thought 75 State Street (the tallish building with the gold leaf accents) looked about 10 to 15 floors too short. It would look great with a Custom House Tower style top added to it.

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop

I wrote a letter to Marty Walz (the state rep for Back Bay) about saving the Arlington Building and I'll attach her reply here. Apparently it's Mayor Menino we should have been writing to.

Re: Suffolk Dorms / Modern Theatre

The Hurley Building is Bostons other Paul Rudolph building. The other threatened with demolition for TNP. I don't find it ugly as much as poorly maintained. The state uses a triagular space at the...

Re: Shreve, Crump & Low bldng may be replaced w/ new develop

I don't agree with your last comment in this paragraph. If you travel the country much you'll see that New Englands NATURAL beauty is hard to beat. It's cold in winter there's no doubt about that,...
