Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Height restrictions in the Seaport certainly exacerbate these problems.

Re: Fantasy T maps

I love van's work and they got me into amateur transit planning years ago. But his ideas are often much "crazier" than the kinds of ideas I'm thinking about.

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

I'd argue that the City of Cambridge has botched the city's development for the last 20 years, but that's probably a discussion for a different thread.

Re: Fantasy T maps

Mocked up a map for different Blue Line possibilities.

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

Union and Davis are incorporated into the fabric of Camberville (god I hate that, but it's an efficient portmanteau) in ways that Assembly just isn't, and the businesses and development pattern are...

Re: Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower (GCG Phase I) | 50 Sudbury St | Gov't Center

Are we really talking about water contamination in the Bullfinch Crossing thread? C'mon Westie, try to manage your impulse control!

Re: Boston Bombing Memorial | Boylston St | Back Bay

It was redesigned with input from victim's families, which slowed the process down.

From NBC Boston in March...

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

Agreed. Would probably be to the Casino because there's nowhere for LRV to easily go via Wellington unless you're really blowing up Rte 16.

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

To be honest, I'll be very surprised if the garages are ever converted to something else. Too many people go to Assembly from places that aren't Orange Line adjacent and the T will probably never be...

Re: Design a Better Lot

Oh that's interesting. Get rid of the street-running segment all-together? I agree that bus lanes would need to be included to help the 39 supplant the Green Line in northern JP.

Re: Design a Better Lot

Awesome. Will be interesting to see what they come up with. 16 is a total shit-show south of Medford Square all the way to Route 1.

Re: Design a Better Lot

I’m super skeptical of that intersection becoming more pedestrianized and having more smart development. That said, I could see a developer putting an ill-conceived project up on the Kappy’s site in...

Re: The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

KentXie, Crazy Airport Pitches (http://www.archboston.org/community/showthread.php?t=5582) calls your name.

Also I'm thinking the debate about Boston's density and housing stock would be better...

Re: The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

These two things together point to the real culprits here: the FAA (height) and zoning (height + density), with sides of NIMBYs and pandering officials.

Re: The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

This. New York is just BIG enough, and has enough precedent, to easily build towers in certain neighborhoods. But Boston is so compact that NIMBY neighborhoods and areas (Public Garden, Back Bay...

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

Another point of confusion that I haven't read up enough on. I thought the lot was being sold by the Feds and being redeveloped. Whoops!

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Saw a new OL train set go by at Assembly yesterday. It was out of service so must have been a testing run? Or it was deadheading to Wellington.

Re: 1000 Boylston Street | MassDOT Parcel 15 | Back Bay

Add one more thing to the pile of things to blame for this project's demise: minimum parking requirements.

Re: 1000 Boylston Street | MassDOT Parcel 15 | Back Bay

Probably best to put any responses about the global economic conditions, trade deals, and Boston's resilience to recessions in other threads. Just to head off political tangents at the pass ;)

Re: Fantasy T maps

I agree with F-Line about yard access, and it's not so simple as putting the station further east and running tracks to yard space at the lumber yard site, because the whole track build is...
