Re: North-South Rail Link

I would think under the proposed scheme, all Northside trains could theoretically go through, since there would be 1:1 matching with lines on the Southside portal. Although maybe it's more...

Re: North-South Rail Link

I don't remember where I saw this, but the most recent quick review included Congress St. as one of 3 routings for study.

Re: Residential Tower | 41 Lagrange Street | Chinatown

Hah hah, I love that Centerfolds and the Glass Slipper made it in to one of the renders.

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

Really, tailgating is an American suburb thing. I've been to games for a variety of top tier pro sports in a variety of settings. When there is a big parking lot, there is tail gating, regardless of...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Riffing on DominusNovus's thought about stacking subteranian lines under existing tracks, what about building an El above the Fairmount Line? Then that corridor would have actually, true rapid...

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

Deck over the tracks between 4th and Travler, call it Revolution Square, put retail around the periphery, and you have a fantastic gathering/rally spot where marchers can converge just before the...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

I think it makes more sense to go with one of the easier ROW options and elevate sections if flooding is a valid concern.

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

So if the Washington El power source is still there, then I'd add the South End/Roxbury Silver Line to the list of potentially easy conversions. That would especially matter if some sort of through...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

There was a proposal in the mid-90s to replace Fenway Park and also build a football stadium over the pike between Kenmore and Mass Ave, along with an expanded Hynes Convention Center (also on air...

Re: Idea for fixing the housing shortage

This, right here, is exactly it. Our transportation infrastructure problem is one created by geometry. Too many oversized SOVs trying to exist in a space inadequate for such a mode. In the 50s,...

Re: State of boston public schools

Every time I drive through Newton Corner, I'm astonished by the presence of a Star Market and hotel above the Pike. How was that feasible back then but too costly now? Anyway, enough of a thread...

Re: State of boston public schools

Slightly off topic, but I've often wondered why we don't simply build low rise directly above the Pike and get it done, rather than pie in the sky 400 foot engineering marvels. Wouldn't it be fairly...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Looks like a definite improvement. I think it's definitely close enough to the station for anybody wanting to make that connection, and yet is far more useful for people not needing to switch to the...

Re: Kenmore Square North

I'll join in by saying this Oct 30 version is pretty bland. And I absolutely wish the corner building could be saved. But aside from that one building, Kenmore has never really been a place of...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

That is almost word for word the analysis that came after the priority bus lane pilot in Roslindale. It's almost like, I don't know, better transit improves everything for everybody. Who'd a thunk it?

Re: Parcel 12 | Massachusetts Avenue at Boylston Street | Back Bay

I use the tunnel at Mass Ave. if the pedestrian light is red and a train is coming. But otherwise I don't, because it requires going back upstairs to the fare gates. That would not be an issue at...

Re: Roxbury parcels 9 & 10 | Melnea Cass Blvd | Roxbury

I ride by here on my bike quite frequently. There has been a surge in activity over the past few months, after essentially a year of nothing. Good to see it approaching completion, but I hadn't...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

I think we are starting to see wealthier, tech oriented cities (and the corporations obviously) following the same path that manufacturing did in the 80s and 90s. Car companies, shoe manufacture,...

Re: The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

The building that housed Harvest in its final years, along with the companion building across the street are, despite proximity to Forest Hills, very low density locations and very pedestrian...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Agree with North Shore and F-Line. There was good stuff in there about how much TM is doing and their overall approach. But the presentation lens was a big distraction.

Re: Biking in Boston

There is more detail on the SWC to MGH project on page 174. They aren't talking about the park with the same name, just a route that largely passes through the park. It looks like the plan is...

This is the most recent master plan I've seen. They obviously hugely missed their goals if you review the 2018 map against today's actual "network".

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

Good question, and I don't have a particular answer, other than to observe that both have much higher usage rates than a soccer stadium would have. Each is actively used more than 100 times a year,...

Re: Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

Just a guess, but I suspect it has to do with proximity to Amtrak's electrical lines. All the bridges on the NEC were redone with high walls like that when the line was electrified.
