It's funky. I kinda like it.

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

The other problem with ferries is that their catchment stinks. Riders have to walk all the way to the water’s edge which is generally not “on the way” to anything so you really have to count it in...

Re: Union Square D2.1 | 10 Prospect Street | Somerville

I disagree. Cambridge Crossing is a blank slate with weak connections to the rest of the city. The new buildings in Union look different from the rest of the square, but they are integrated into the...

Re: Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower (GCG Phase I) | 50 Sudbury St | Gov't Center

I caught that same view just the other day. The northern side of downtown is really being transformed. The new residents these 3 towers are going to pump a lot of vitality into downtown streets.

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

I certainly hope not! We should be bending over backwards to encourage use of commuter rail for non-commuter trips. It seems to me your existing monthly pass buyers are the low hanging fruit. Nickel...

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

I'm just brainstorming here, but I think my ideal scenario would let me register/link my Charlie Card to my app account. I want to use the physical card for tapping, but I want to make purchases for...

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

My company-purchased pass updates on the same charlie card every month. That means they are just updating info for that charlie card number in a database each month. I don't see why your AFC 2.0...

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

I have a question about using a mobile phone for tapping. When I pay with phone at the grocery store, my iPhone does a FaceID validation (it did thumbprint on my older phone). Hopefully tapping into...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

In North America, yes. See post above. A fleet of 500 or so FRA compliant DMUs would absolutely be a niche product, if you could even convince anyone to build them.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I agree. If we could even procure DMUs in the first place, that will just put us in the usual MBTA situation of having niche rolling stock that will be a nightmare to procure in the future. No thanks.

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

People take their picture reflected (along with the skyline) in Chicago's bean. They take photos under the Philly LOVE sign, often kissing. How cool would it be for it become "a thing" to take...

Re: Biking in Boston

Those signs are confusing, but correct. You can only turn right onto Memorial WB. Once you cross over Memorial WB, you reach another stop sign and then may process to turn left onto Memorial EB. The...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

Sorry, maybe I missed something. What proposal is there for congestion tolls in Boston? Other than AB fantasyland?

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Granted, the OL in its current crush-loaded state may not be looking for a ridership boost. After the fleet overhaul however, it should be primed to swallow up a lot more demand. Even still, that...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

You make really good points here. I'm inclined to strongly agree because you outline a philosophy I can agree with that is also in close keeping with the status quo (and thus highly feasible).

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Could that morning Worcester train, after arriving at NS, collect a few passengers and head back to Kendall, essentially doing the job of the EZ-ride? That seems like a valuable trip, though...

Re: Somerville Developments

I think it is 3 3-bed units for a grand total of 100 units.

This is what I call density. We have literally hundreds of thousands of family sized units already. IMO the real trick is freeing them...

Re: The New Office Thread

I've bought dinning chairs, bar stools, and rugs. I hear my friends mention it from time to time, but not nearly as often as, e.g., Ikea.

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

This is unquestionably the true source of the high cost of new housing. It is actually expensive to produce. Coupled with the high salaries around here, the restrictions guarantee homes are only...

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

I think there is a contradiction buried in here. You cannot just have a slump in demand for high cost units without a slump in demand for all units. Even with all the market distortions and no matter...

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

I think the demand side of this is making a move (rather slowly) in the right direction. Cities that have been in low demand need to adapt and reinvent themselves to become more desirable to the...
