Re: East Boston Developments

Stylish, even chic. The architects took the same materials used in most new construction, threw in their creative alchemy and came up with something commendable. The row houses are especially nice.

Re: Somerville Developments

Wonderful. So reminiscent of 50's Googie motels. Much more of this kind of thing.

Re: Harvard - Allston Campus

Infrastructure facilities can be interesting and attractive in an industrial way (not sure if that will be the case here), very often more interesting to look at than the dull copy and paste cloning...

Re: MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

A nicely evolving cluster of towers and density. Bonus points for its focus on research and knowledge advancement.

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

The BPA reaction is hilarious. It's reminiscent of an early b&w silent film with all of the outrageously hammy over acting.

Re: Marriott Moxy Hotel | 240 Tremont Street (Parcel P-7A) | Theater District

The Treehouse and Zinc have already set the precedent for this and both have blunted the initial "shock of the new" as far as large scale pixelated facades go. The envelope has never been pushed by...

Re: Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

"During a conference call with the leftist political group Justice Democrats, Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) revealed that she has no idea what the three branches of the U.S. government...

Re: Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

A deeply ignorant and narcissistic socialist has been mildly criticized and not surprisingly Kent drags out the phony misogynist card. And makes a not very subtle call for censorship and banning...

Re: Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

Ocasio-Cortez is a child legislator with the intellectual sophistication of a 12 year old. All ideology no ideas.

Re: UMass Boston Residence Hall 1 | Columbia Point | Dorchester

Dorms are handsome and have some real warmth. The original buildout though is still a perfect place to shoot scenes for a dystopian sci-fi film: crumbling, apocalyptic, alien.

Re: Rose Kennedy Greenway

Still waiting for the 3 buildings (YMCA, Boston museum, and the Horticulture winter garden) promised as amenities. Since all those non-profits turned out to be can't-do give those parcels to...

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

Hope all the Volpe open space counts toward the 25% open space requirement for the total project but it would be just like Cambridge to not include it and require an even bigger bite from the...

Re: Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

I'd rather see no cornice or anything else, just let the facade top off in a clean line. The rooftop addition on the left would have looked absurd if a cornice had been added to it. Also would...

Re: BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | 401 Congress Street | Seaport

The Sasaki is original and interesting but I'd rather have elegant bold versus cartoon bold. Hopefully it turns out well but it could easily end up looking like an unfunny joke.

Re: Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

Fine addition. The cornice though adds nothing at all and looks like a forced homage to contextualism. Cornice correctness?

Re: Crossroads at Kenmore | 560 Commonwealth Ave | Kenmore Square

So Gang Studio presumably asked themselves what's contextual for Boston? And they came up with red (as in red brick) and elongated bay windows dripping down the elevations on all sides. They...

Re: Jackson Square Phase III | Jamaica Plain

A serious response to a housing shortage would have been a cluster of 10-12 story towers with many hundreds of units. An unserious response, this one, is garden-style suburban-grade density with too...

Re: Residences at Brighton Marine | 1465 Comm. Ave | Brighton

This could be the exact same mockup for at least two dozen other projects right now. Are these being designed by actual architects or boilerplate archibots?
