Re: Union Square D2.1 | 10 Prospect Street | Somerville

It is odd how little Union Sq proper was upzoned - much of it not at all. In the long run, this will shift the center of gravity away from the historic square towards the Green Line stop...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

A second entrance to Sullivan is a big opportunity to reduce crowding and dangerous mixed flows of buses, cars, and pedestrians close to Sullivan.

Re: Logan Flight Additions

There have been flights from Dulles to Addis Ababa for a long time, I believe. This is one of the busiest North America - Africa flights as Addis is a regional hub.

Re: Avalon North Station | Nashua Street Residences | West End

In german, the word for bakery is "baeckeri" (or b-a umlaut-ckerei)...it's a charming callout to how you'd spell it in switzerland

Re: Goddard House | 201 S. Huntington | Jamacia Plain

The lack of ground floor retail/activation in the new buildings between Hyde Square and Heath St is a disaster for urbanism

Re: What's Happening With Project X?

The building at 333 Tremont seems rather vacant...I walk past there twice daily and have been wondering if it's up for redevelopment.

Re: The New Retail Thread

The owner could listen to Samuels and charge at-cost rents to make the neighborhood interesting. Suspect that's where we'll get eventually, but it might be the Echelon that does it, given the more...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

This solution looks like how they've managed to complete parts of the East River Greenway in Manhattan by placing it above the FDR

Re: Garage Nightclub Redevelopment | 20 Linden Street | Allston

It's also right on the 66, which leads to multiple employment destinations....

Re: Garage Nightclub Redevelopment | 20 Linden Street | Allston

BPDA and the ZBA still need to actually approve all these projects on Cambridge St, which has slowed considerably of late.

Re: MassDOT Pike Parcels 12 - 15 | Boylston St. and Mass. Ave | Back Bay

Why is there parking included? Are the garages nearby ever full?

Anyone catch this? They're going form:
156 hotel units -> 175-200
173 rental+condo units -> 125-150
Total housing units might...

Re: Hood Business Park | 480-570 Rutherford Avenue | Charlestown

What should that park be branded? Asthma park? Highway soot park?

Rutherford Ave needs a streetwall not a park. Open space might be a good idea here, but it should be part of a natural grid and...

Re: What was Boston like in the [recent] past?

If the West End were less renewed, I'd imagine it would end up like the core of the lower east side in NYC - some Jewish institutions remaining with more until rather recently and the rest becoming...

Re: What was Boston like in the [recent] past?

This paper by Glaeser gives a good overview of what led to the early decline of Boston and the reasons machine politicians pushed a destructive agenda.

Re: Flower Exchange Redevelopment | South End

There's several more long blocks between Harrison and Albany that could be redeveloped Harrison-Albany block style. This is a good place for taller office - block out the expressway; Albany is a...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Seems like a golden opportunity to build a walkable, urban entrance to the Alewife neighborhood, a ton more housing and retail, and keep a larger, modern garage hidden behind urban facades.

Re: Seaport Parcels M1-M2 | Seaport Sq. | Seaport

The seaport is killing it and all the early claims to the contrary were overreactions to earlier stages of development.

Re: Ink Block (Boston Herald) | 300 Harrison Avenue | South End

It is mind boggling to me how nicely the Siena turned out and how shitty the building along Albany that went up at the same time by the same developer looks.

Re: 60 Kilmarnock St | Fenway

Disappointing they're getting rid of the Tapestry space, OTOH, they're preserving the whole restaurant row.

Re: Parcel I | Cambridge Crossing | East Cambridge

Because it's Cambridge they have to turn useful building space into another, quite unnecessary park.

Re: Kenmore Square North

This site is begging for a facade-ectomy plus added density in the interior of the block. Step back, build something semi contextual above the existing facades and call it a day. Why's it even...
