Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

It would be cool, but, then we wouldn't have the NEC.

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I meant average breakdowns/repairs per mile. However, the NEC seems to do reasonable well during storms, at least as well or better than the current diesels in blizzards/etc. As does NYC/NJ, London,...

I guess screw everyone in Dot, then, too?

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Always though that is because of assholes trying to get on the train when its leaving, or a bag is blocking the door, or something tripping the doors to reopen.

Never going to happen to Hyde...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I think it at least helps commuters a bit even without capacity upgrades: the electric push/pulls should at least accelerate better (maybe shaving a few minutes off), and, most importantly should in...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Wouldn't that pretty much take up the row/GJ so the urban ring would be pretty much DOA from Lechmere/Kendall/etc?

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I mean... the official builder/company that constructed it say its shorter. Unless there is evidence to the contrary, that seems to be the record of fact/truth.

Re: Taj renovation

Hopefully it goes better than when the Ritz tried to renovate the building.

Re: South Station Tower | South Station | Downtown

Plus the air rights cost, and, if we were smart, it would be a land lease. The same thing that was bandied around by Baker as funding for the SSX (vs the NSRL). Add in any and all revenue over North...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Or $3 Billion more for the NSRL. People also don't like BRT because nothing we have even now is actually BRT.

Re: South Station Tower | South Station | Downtown

Take the tax generation by this project and the cost of SSX and use that money to fund the NSRL.

Re: South Station Tower | South Station | Downtown

Isn't this supposedly what is going to fund the SSX? Also, the SSX isn't happening for a long time.

Re: South Station Tower | South Station | Downtown

Well, that is fantastic, really thought this was going to continue getting extensions. Am I wrong in thinking that this should go up pretty quickly since its steel and "foundation" is basically...

Re: Northeast Maglev

Sure, not disagreeing here, just pointing out the why (that would also take an act of congress to change). Also, for the record, Amtrak does gets subsidies, although they have to beg for them every...

The highway system doesn't have to operate as a psuedo private company.

Re: Fenway Theater | 12 Lansdowne St | Fenway

I don't know - I feel like the banners contextually fit very well with Fenway Park and its banner lined streets.

Re: Fairmount Line Upgrade

That is one part of it, but, even if their wasn't freight traffic, its still a pretty limited/useless ROW to try to route rapid transit down.

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I think it was asked a bit further back, but are they still using top down? Shouldn't that mean it starts getting above ground fairly quickly?

Re: MBTA is pushed to study air rights development at Cabot Yard

Yes, plus, they retain the underlying land value/rights (which are gone forever just selling it for the one time payout). In fact, we should just let HK's MTR run everything.

Re: MBTA is pushed to study air rights development at Cabot Yard

Seems like the more shrewd way of dealing with things like this is via ground lease and not outright selling the land for a one time payout.

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

If Bellevue gets moved a bit centered on the Westie Parkway, it would be interesting to maybe put an infill @ Belgrade & Walworth. Good spacing from Bellevue (~2,800ft), and a reasonably dense area....

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

At least through any company program I have gotten my pass from, its always a monthly charlie card with the zone pass on the back (which can be done with any zone, not just zone 1). I will say that...

Re: Fenway Theater | 12 Lansdowne St | Fenway

I have been here for... much longer than 10 years (since birth, I suppose). Yes, a lot have closed, but there are still quiet a few dives left, especially in the neighborhoods - Boston is bigger than...

Re: Providence developments

The one thing about that plan that always struck me as odd/bad would be the no direction connection to the existing Amtrak/CR train station. I would think that would be a major must have in a light...
