Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Thats the problem right there. People freak out every time any tree gets cut. Its the rich communities that tend to lose power the most, in my experience. In Quincy, I think our neighborhood has had...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Depends on the towns and neighborhoods. When my wife rented in Chestnut Hill, a stiff breeze would knock out power. I gotta think that the infrastructure for the CR will be a bit more durable.

Re: Northeast Maglev

Our freight rail system is both top notch and profitable. Its not as easy to make and apples to apples comparison for passenger rail and highways, since highways are used for freight and passengers.

Re: Northeast Maglev

I agree that maglev is very impractical just on the ROW issues alone, and add in the fact that it requires a brand new infrastructure, I don’t see any way that it can work. Even if we could use the...

Re: General Infrastructure

Seems to me that it probably would have been better not to say it in the first place, then.

Re: General Infrastructure

Far be it for me to defend Walsh, but do you have anything to back that up?

Re: General Infrastructure

I noticed coming in this morning that traffic on Berkeley was unusually smooth flowing. Given that there’s no overnight parking there, I can’t help but connect the two facts. I bet there’d be plenty...

Re: General Infrastructure

Sure as hell wasn’t half melted in the parts of Boston I was working in. All the snowbanks piled up by the plows just got more compact, and of course, because there was no parking ban, there were...

Re: General Infrastructure

Anyone know why they didn’t declare either a snow emergency or parking ban last night? Here in Quincy they did, and we got 16 inches, Boston looks like it got 10-15, depending on the neigorhood.

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

If anyone knows the answer and will ondilge me not digging through the thread:
Will Parcel P and/or N have street level access to both Congress and Summer? The plan map looks like it is possible, or...

Re: Crazy Airport Pitches

Just build a floating airport beyond the harbor islands:
- Floating, so sea levels are never a concern
- Modular, so you can start small and expand it out as needed
- Absolute freedom of where to...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

I think it is fair for people to be skeptical of the Chinese government. I think it is also fair for legislators to not be experts on such technical matters - if they were experts, they’d be wasted...

Re: General Infrastructure

So, has anyone else been unimpressed with the general response to this relatively minor snowstorm we had over the weekend? I don’t think anyone got towed in Boston, and they barely plowed before the...

Re: Summer St. Gondola

I hope you don’t mind me lasering in on one point, but since you’re the one that raised the issue of disruptiveness, in your prior post, I think it is valid to reach a conclusion. More specifically,...

Re: Summer St. Gondola

As the options are not mutually exclusive, and a gondola is by its definition not disruptive, I still have to disagree. I’d like to push back on a bus lane along this route, in particular. Due to the...

Re: Summer St. Gondola

It seems to me that most of the fo us is on how other options are better, and less on how a gondola would be bad. It would take up so little actual real estate that I really steuggle to understand...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Another thought on NSRL/regional rail, as far as outreach and PR/marketing is concerned:

My wife and I are on a North Shore day trip, and we stopped by the Azorean Restaurant that is literally...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Are there any plans to redevelop the Braintree Station area?

I look at the plaza north of Union Street, with the Hobby Lobby, Best Buy, Staples, etc, and think it really is wasted potential. That...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I agree with this, kinda glad you said it first. Its not like people are changing physically that much in a decade, so as long as the design is human-centric, its not like it matters if its super up...
