Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I think the intent of the test is a cheap test of electric locomotives, on a line that is already electrified (i.e. NEC).

Re: The Mark at DeNormandie Wharf | Hodge Boiler Works Building | East Boston

Decon is what kept most of these wharfs from being redeveloped for so long. It is a really expensive process.

Good to see they are really doing it. Other areas that have done extensive wharf...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I am pretty sure that the NEC electric feed is way more secure than the power feed to suburban bedroom communities.

You don't hear that Amtrak is stalled because the power is out in Attleboro.

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

OK, but the article is from March 14 and states the defective track would be replaced that night.

Speed restriction are still in place today. So clearly the track was not replaced that night!

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

Just that you can't have smart phone only payment options.

You need a lower tech option as well, and a means to load value on the lower tech option via cash. (Ideally move the cash processing...

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

Uh, Duh. That was what I was saying. Both should work, not an either/or.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

I don't trust the MBTA to do Green Line Extensions right either. GLX finally seems on track (after a disastrous start). But Green Line implementation where the Silver Line is today has huge...

Re: Pier 4 Condo Building (Former Anthony's site) | Seaport

^ It is just dawning on people that this Pier 4 building looks a bit like a cruise ship? What could ever possibly inspire the architect for that look?

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

We discussed a lot in this thread how patrons are unlikely to be big users of the T.

But I am now realizing how many employees this place is going to have -- thousands per the advertising. All...

Re: Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement system

We have to keep in mind that transit payment needs to work for people who don't own smart phones as well as those who do.

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

This can be fixed: airport car entry fee and drop zone controls. SFO is just whiffing on their admin responsibility.

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

It is certainly an amazing recreation of the original. And the window well infill glass is top quality as well.

This is pretty generous give-back to the City, by Emerson, in terms of...

Re: General Electric HQ (Phase 1 - Necco Buildings Reno) | 244-284 A Street | Fort Po

A tower, per the dictionary definition, needs to be significantly taller than it is wide, by a pretty major margin.

The GE HQ building proposed was basically a cube. Certainly not significantly...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Capacity issues are exactly why you need both SSX and NSRL and the third bridge back at North Station.

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

^ I love the total fantasy quality of the traffic in all those shots. Light traffic, all flowing freely. No backups, no blocks of stopped vehicles. Certainly no reality there.

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I find the MBTA website info on passes very confusing.

The way the site reads a Monthly LinkPass (subway, bus) is not usable on Commuter Rail Zone 1a, or the Charlestown Ferry.

But a Commuter...

Re: BU Development Thread

My understanding is that most textbooks are now distributed as eBooks (most, but not all).

eBooks don't really support a destination book store.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I would completely agree with this, if we were also increasing the gas tax or other transportation related support taxes at a rate that also is equivalent to inflation. But we don't.

+1

And remember how the "Combat Zone" was so classy!

Everyone wanted to live in Boston Proper. Wait, no they didn't, they were moving away in droves!
