Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

The hands only works because of it's size IMHO. I would prefer if it was a bit more abstract but I like the material, color and size.

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

although the embracing arms one is quite literal, I kind of like the idea of an iconic piece that would be an instant landmark, kinda like the bean in Chicago.

Re: 5 Middlesex Avenue | Assembly Square | Somerville

Like others have said, your input is much appreciated.
Just some thoughts.
The name seems quite short sighted for a building that's probably going to be around for a few generations. It might...

Re: 5 Middlesex Avenue | Assembly Square | Somerville

Hang on, so 'Boston Landing' fails as a name but 'Xmbly' works? I'd think twice about leasing there because of the amount of explaining I'd have to do about my address. Daft name. (and ugly boring...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

I don't mind it. (apart from the ugly ground level buildings). I like taking exit 28 off 93 and looking out over Sullivan. Just a few years ago it was an industrial wasteland. Granted, it has a long...

Re: Somerville Developments

Was eating in Union square last night.
They seem to be doing drainage/sewerage work in the middle of the square. They've closed down the right filter lane from somerville ave to Stone ave (outside...

Re: Boston - Most Embarrassing Blight That Tourists See

I'd like to nominate the Irish famine memorial on Washington and School, I think.
I know it's not blighted (except for pigeon shit) but it's one of the worst pieces of public art I've ever seen and...

Re: Proposed Boston flood barrier

Excellent post, and the bulk of this needs to be done by 2030.

Re: Proposed Boston flood barrier

30 years??
It could take 30 years to build a wall??
how in gods name could it take 30 years?

I know a question like this induces sniggers and talk of incompetence but I'm genuinely curious as to...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

I haven't tried that, will give it a go, thanks
Think going to south station is really just a force of habit from living on the red line a few years back.
Anything to avoid going round in circles...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

three transfers? as in four parts to your trip to logan? That's mad.
I live in east somerville and its two transfers orange > red > silver and that takes about an hour. If you want to get a Friday...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

ah, I just picked up your post wrong and figured you'd forgotten about davis, either way, I agree with your point on Alewife but not Union.

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Davis is closer to Alewife than Porter but yea, you're probably right about the existence of Porter negating the need for a similar setup at Alewife.
I think a CR stop at Union to link with the GLX...

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

Yup, I live near by and echo these sentiments. It's still early days and it needs to turn from a development into a neighborhood. Hopefully in a few years draw 7 park will be redone, there will be a...

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

ha, what would you have preferred on the site?
Assembly is pretty straight forward. It's a shame there isn't more affordable units in the development and the garages are pretty ugly but it seems...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

I hope you're right but I can't see them just scrubbing this deal if they locate HQ2 in Boston.
I also think one hand is definitely talking to the other with regard to ongoing Amazon expansion and...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

Sounds like a great idea.
I don't think Amazon would invest so heavily in the Seaport area if they were planning on building a huge campus here.

Re: Union Square Redevelopment | Somerville

They have some interesting texture and could be worse I suppose. I just feel that they'll be building these huge cubes in residential communities and although there's a nod to the industrial history,...

Re: Union Square Redevelopment | Somerville

oh joy, two huge boxes. Do the people designing these things actually go out and look at the site and surrounds or do they just click 'cost effective box' in the dropdown and whack 'return'?

Re: Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

Not thinking of anything quite as major as that.

If money wasn't an option, something like the bike path bridge under the Zakem at north point park could work if it wound it's way from Stop'n'shop...

Re: Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

I do want to see this built but it is frustrating that if you want to walk from East Somerville to Assembly, you have to take your life in your hands at the crosswalks and deal with a rat infested...
