Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

There was a plan over 10-15 years ago of tearing the Walgreens down (it might have been a RiteAid at the time) ... and ... REBUILDING a new pharmacy building with a drive-thru (current building doesn't have one). I'm glad that redevelopment didn't happen. A lot of people found it to be...

    Portland Bayside

10 Years Later .... Monroe must be so pleased. Misguided gasbag. "Today, concrete construction barriers outline the rectangular blocks of dirt, gravel and weeds between Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods that, had plans for The Midtown project moved forward, would likely be a thriving mixed-use...

    General Portland Discussion

Well the biggest chunk in the middle of the map is Evergreen Cemetery and Baxter Woods. So ... those are technically out. Same goes for some other areas on the peninsula itself. I can't see Payson Park being taken for a HS campus. Deering does have capacity to be expanded, possibly best...

When will Sanford have its moment?

Having personal experience and history with Sanford, I'd agree that image issues are a big part of it. But that's not all. Sanford tends to be more of a sleeper-town where residents commute to the shipyard in Portsmouth, or to Biddeford, Portland, and other areas for work. There are no...

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Haha ... NO ... that is a hot mess. Is that a prior iteration of that location? The lights at the St. John/Danforth Connection and then at the Parkway hold up traffic flow. The same can be said for the light at the Beech Street/Bridge Ramp connection. I think there's another light at Center &...

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

I would perhaps agree - except ... Consolidating Franklin from four winding/sprawling lanes ... to four boulevard lanes (with bicycle lanes, turning lanes, etc) ... wouldn't work any differently than say ... Forest Ave, western Congress Street (Westgate), outer Washington Ave (Northgate)...

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Not at all? Solely for the purpose of traffic/congestion and parking? The photos in the article (while ugly) state they are "one vision" and not THE vision for the redevelopment. The base of the depicted buildings, while not actually proposed, appear to show a level of parking in the buildings...

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

I don't see any reason to dislike this first step toward redeveloping Franklin. The title is a little misleading as the article discusses revamping Thomas Park near Denny's and providing a loan for a developer. The loan for the developer doesn't have anything to do with Franklin. I realize the...
