Roads and Highways General Development Thread

I would remove only the west-bound Route 16 overpass, and move both directions of Route 16 to the surface. The existing east-bound Route 16 overpass would be left in place, but converted to a greenway "land bridge" carrying a new multi-use path (in yellow) over Main Street.. The bright green...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

Except that the GL tunnel curve from Tremont St to Boylston St might be tight, because the elevated trains didn't go in that part of the tunnel.

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Eliminate all on-street parking, add bike lanes, keep one traffic lane in each direction, construct a GL reservation down the middle, and there you have it!

    "Dirty Old Boston"

Wow, that first one is surrealistic to the max. Love it!

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

My wish is that the two tracks would continue on to a new portal next to Sorrow Drive between Leverett Circle and Longfellow Bridge, then continue on the surface to Charlesgate alongside a road-dieted Storrow Drive in which the current 6 traffic lanes are reduced down to 4 lanes, with the two...

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

The recent SR 99 deep bore tunnel under downtown Seattle carries 4 lanes of highway, 2 lanes on each level. See images below. So, based on that I would assume 4 tracks is possible in a single deep bored tunnel.

    "Dirty Old Boston"

I could be wrong, but the pearl clutching/NIMBYism rose to significance later, in the late 1960s after the BRA's urban renewal projects thoroughly traumatized the public. Before that, I think Boston was pretty much forward-looking and open to new development. That said, I don't recall any...

    Crazy Highway Pitches

The jug handle turn off Mass Ave EB to Cedar/Harvey/Cameron is in a commercial block, so it works politically.

    Crazy Highway Pitches

In commercial or business areas, or even in dense apartment building areas, it would work. However, in residential areas like North Cambridge there would be objections from residents to the increased traffic on their residential side streets.

I miss the trackless trolley wires.

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

I'd like to see daily Boston to Greenfield trains instituted sooner. Greenfield is an economically depressed area, a lovely town but a lot of homeless people, and the trains would give it a much needed shot in the arm. Up until the 1970s, Greenfield had a lot of good paying jobs at mills and...

Dick’s House of Sports | Prudential Center | Back Bay

I agree. This site, in any kind of a rational world, would be occupied by an office/residential high rise having shops/bars/restaurants on the ground floor. I don't know how the gods of suburbia were allowed to plop down this Dick's white elephant onto this prime location perfect for high rise...
