It would be flippin' AMAZING if the MBTA was able to get the current Acela locomotives for cheap money once the new ones replace them. Then just cover the cost of electrifying the Fairmount and Stoughton branches and we've got some damn nice service taking shape. 64 is a bit much though, maybe just buy like 10.

My mistake, they're not replacing the Acela's are they? I'm guessing these are for the "Toasters" (I forget their real name, they're used on regionals).

It would be nice for the T to buy these surplus locomotives and use them on the existing electrified lines. But it would go against Commuter Rail's rules of having trainsets be ready for any place at any time.
